It’s easy for riders to be bummed about the rain this time of year as the weather teases us with a few nice days. The old adage is “April showers bring May flowers.” We are not really worried about the flowers over here at the shop, but we think these rainy days are a great reminder that Summer is on its way. You can’t really ride in weather like this (we’ve seen some of you attempt to and that’s a little hardcore even for us!) so you might as well take advantage of these fleeting days before summer to make sure your bike is ready when the flowers are…
So here is our gift you this Spring – a checklist to go over to ensure you don’t have to put your bike in the shop when it is 80 degrees and all your buddies are riding.
- Do you have a charged/maintained battery? If not, we sell them for great prices and they aren’t the Chinese junk they sell at Wal-Mart. You get what you pay for.
- Get your oil and filter changed. Just because you haven’t been riding your bike, doesn’t mean the oil is still good. Oil goes bad with Use (riding) AND with Time (just sitting). Your oil becomes acidic as time passes and that can eat away at the lining of the inside of your engine … Which can ultimately lead to rusting and corrosion. Get your oil changed!! You can’t afford not to.
- How’s your fuel tank? Did you stabilize your fuel over the winter? Gas goes bad overtime just like oil can. If you had no gas in your tank over the winter, check to see if any rusting has started. Air inside your tank over the winter has moisture in it which can lead to rusting. Don’t be a statistic!!
- How are your tires and brakes? These are simple maintenance items that are very important on your motorcycle. Safety items like these should NOT be overlooked or put off til later. Remember to not use a tire cleaner on bike tires – it will make them hard and slippery.
- Check all lights. Don’t forget the flashing ones!
These are just some basics. Remember if you want to do any of these maintenance items or custom work to your bike, now is the time! We’re open 6 days a week to serve you! And if you are a “do it yourself” kind if person, we totally support that. Let us know if you need some good prices on parts or just some helpful tips!
